House of the Dragonfly

EZ Hyoung, “Vain Hope (feat. Kim YoonJoo of Rooftop Moonlight)

Sometimes, two people are on two completely different pages. In this song, it seems like they’re not even reading the same book – or the same genre! Maybe one of them is reading a book while the other watches a drama, even. That’s ok, it happens! And when it does, here’s a bright, cheerful song to help the snubbed get over their humiliation. Misery loves company, after all.

(You are my destiny)

English:

I talk about boring stuff, this and that

Sometimes I complain a little (but)

You’re like my doctor, my vitamins

My organic, healing mentor

To me, you’re my one and only

When we pick out clothes

or go to see a movie

or even when upsetting things happen

I say to you, “What clothes do you want to wear?

What kind of movie shall we go see?”

I ask you what you think

Thank you for listening to me [1]

You’re my lovely shoulder (to lean on) [2]

Thank you for listening to me

You’re the reason I can breathe

Thank you for listening to my story

I’m happy with just that

Even without that, you are, to me

the person who suits me quite well

You talk to and answer yourself

You really don’t have a clue

I don’t even have so much as a degree

of anything like interest in you

Don’t pretend we’re close

It’s a waste, a waste of my time

What crime did I commit in a past life? [3]

You put on a dog and pony show

and think whatever you like

You’re really uncomfortable to me

Thank you for listening to my story

You’re my lovely shoulder (to lean on)

Thank you for listening to my story

You’re the reason I can breathe

Thank you for listening to my story

I’m happy with just that

Even without that, you are, to me

the person who suits me quite well

(You are my destiny)

Thank you for listening to me

I don’t really know how I feel, either

Thank you for listening to me

I don’t really know what I’m doing

Thank you for listening to my story

You’re my lovely shoulder (to lean on)

Thank you for listening to my story

You’re the reason I can breathe

Thank you for listening to my story

I’m happy with just that

Even without that, you are, to me,

to me, you’re someone who suits me quite well

To me, you’re someone who suits me quite well

To me, you’re someone who suits me quite well

Notes:

[1] This can literally be translated as “my story” or “talk,” so I kind of just switch between both since both make equal sense in the context and it doesn’t really matter in the end.

[2] This is the opposite problem; it doesn’t literally say “to lean on,” but I’m pretty sure it’s implied. I’d guess it’s also a reference to the really popular duet, “Lean On Me,” by 10cm’s Kwon JeongYeol and Sistar’s Soyu.

[3] The opposite of the common refrain, “you must have saved the country in your past life,” (something along the lines of “전생에서 나라를 구했나 봐”) when someone has unbelievably good fortune because of residual good karma from a past life. This phrase can be heard all the time in dramas.
