Romantic Punch, “Moonwalk in Kyoto”

Since every spring saccharine love songs such as this can be heard blasting from every makeup and cell phone store, it’s quite easy to see why slightly jaded songs such as 10cm’s “What the Spring??” have become increasingly popular. Recently, the blossoming of cherry trees is like a third Valentine’s Day – after White Day and Valentine’s Day itself – to be celebrated by walking under the blossoms with your loved one (or cursing your singleness as your one holiday, Black Day, also succumbs to romantic ideology).

This particular song channels the romanticism of Japan, specifically the novel The Night is Short, Walk on Girl by Tomihiko Morimi, which has also been adapted into a romantic comedy movie. Romantic Punch’s music video loosely mirrors the film plot, and it’s all very sweet and suitable for spring.

English:

How was your night last night?

I see you spent it thoughtlessly so you forgot

Our night is oh so short

It will pass all too soon

Let’s have a sweet drink and then another, slowly

The scent of blooming flowers fills our mouths

Our night is oh so short

Tonight it will pass all too soon

Let’s take a walk above this starlight

On the road, the rain has stopped

Even if we slowly get soaked or it’s an unfamiliar road,

it doesn’t matter, let’s go anywhere

Let’s go for a walk and get drunk on the night

The street is shaking

Even if it’s a little chilly or the road is dark,

tonight, it doesn’t matter

What songs do you like?

How many songs do you think we’d have to listen to

before morning comes?

Our night is oh so short

It will pass all too soon

The scent of the wind is different every season

as are the moonlight and the flow of the river

Our night is oh so short

so let’s walk slowly tonight

Let’s take a walk above this starlight

On the road, the rain has stopped

Even if we slowly get soaked or it’s an unfamiliar road,

it doesn’t matter, let’s go anywhere

Let’s go for a walk and get drunk on the night

The street is shaking

Even if it’s a little chilly or the road is dark,

tonight, it doesn’t matter

We’ll walk step by step by step

up the stairs of wind and starlight and moonlight

Let’s take a walk above this starlight

On the road, the rain has stopped

Even if we slowly get soaked or it’s an unfamiliar road,

it doesn’t matter, let’s go anywhere

Let’s go for a walk and get drunk on the night

The street is shaking

Even if it’s a little chilly or the road is dark,

tonight, it doesn’t matter

Let’s take a walk above this starlight

On the road, the rain has stopped

Even if we slowly get soaked or it’s an unfamiliar road,

it doesn’t matter, let’s go anywhere

Let’s go for a walk and get drunk on the night

The street is shaking

Even if it’s a little chilly or the road is dark,

tonight, it doesn’t matter
