House of the Dragonfly
Tourist, “October Nightscape”
The heavy use of a concertina makes “October Nightscape” feel very European. Don’t be fooled! The meaning of the song, about an autumn trip up the Namsan cable car, is distinctly Korean. This is perhaps what the members mean when they say the song “suggests you to feel like a tourist while you’re still around your hometown.” Hometown being Seoul not required to experience this sensation.
Lyrics /
On a day we walked aimlessly,
that kind of day where even our footsteps are heavy,
[You hand me two tickets to the cable car
that flies in the red-lit sky of the city].
As I hold my breath, the world rushes past
then stops beneath my two feet.
The pink cosmos
climb up and cover the hill.
I dream of a tomorrow filled with you.
Slowly, step by step,
even if I’m clumsy, even if I fall,
will you grab my hand tightly
with a smile containing autumn’s warmth?
In the cold months, my frozen heart
is thawed by the red sky.
The yellow chrysanthemum’s fragrance
sits at the languishing bench.
Without a word, I kiss you on the cheek.
Little by little, word by word,
even if it’s boring, even if it’s difficult,
will you listen carefully to what I’m saying
with a smile that contains the fragrance of autumn?
