Kim Yeon Woo, “Move (feat. Park Kyung of Block B)”

This is another solid song and video set. I love the funk sound mixed with Kim Yeon Woo’s vocals, and Park Kyung’s rap slides right in without seeming misplaced. The upbeat nature of the lyrics, despite being about post-breakup sentiments, reinforces the upbeat funk sound.

But what solidified my interest was the video. It’s so easy to be lazy about a video and fall into the stereotypical tropes of the genre. I harp on videos for that very reason all the time. But this video didn’t hit those pitfalls; I was kept constantly curious, wondering what each new room would bring. I was particularly struck by the scene at 2:40 where the man is huddled around the Boxing Gloves of Fate. This video switches the scenes up (no constant shots of the singer cut by shots of dancers or shots of a poorly-outlined, lackluster story) and cuts between them in an intriguing way. The fact that there are three different sizes of rooms is also interesting, and helps not only with meaning but with keeping the video interesting, as well. Mad props to the director of this music video.

Lyrics /

Where Am I?
Who Am I?

I look like a stupid
but love is movin’

Where Am I?
Who Am I?

Where you are
Who you are

Where Am I?
Who Am I?

Where you are
Who you are

English

Some months and days, seeming like years, pass
I’ve become used to morning without you

[I laugh at
My neglected figure in the mirror]
For the first time, I smiled

Yeah, we had a good love, didn’t we?
That’s something that doesn’t change
I’m thinking of closing us like you close a book

Where am I?
Who am I?
Shall I go in search of myself again?
Now the world is properly passing in front of my eyes

After you left
I look like a stupid
Everyone’s like that at first
Everything Sadness and regret
But love is movin’
You’re like a strong perfume
The memories I’m still cutting
have been fragrant recently
Now the world seems clear
After a cold winter is again a welcoming spring

That’s right, what do you think about how foolish I was?
It’s always like that after a breakup
I’ll do better with my next love, I guess

Where am I?
Who am I?
Shall I go in search of myself again?
Now the world is properly passing in front of my eyes

As we live on, when we remember each other
Let it not be with sadness or regret
To me, there is still no one prettier than you

Where you are
Who you are
I wonder where you are, who you are?
If we see each other sometime far in the future
I wonder if we’ll be able to smile?
You and I.

Where am I?
Who am I?
Shall I go in search of myself again?
Now the world is

Where you are
Who you are
If we see each other sometime far in the future
