Louie (of the Geeks), “Are You Up?”
(Note: the official English title is “Are You Up?” but a more accurate or literal translation would be “At This Time”)
I love the Geeks. I really do. Which means I really love this song, because Louie’s sound as a solo artist doesn’t deviate far from that of the Geeks as a duo (dunno what that says about Lilboi, but hey). Unfortunately or fortunately, “Are You Up?” is merely a pre-release for an album that won’t come out until January. I think the wait will be long for me, but December has always been a slow month for good releases.
To say this is exclusively Louie’s song, however, would be a little strange to me. It does “feature” Yoo Seong Eun and Young Luffy, but seeing how each artist gets one verse and chorus each of the three in the song, “Are You Up?” really seems to be more a collaboration than anything else. Not that I’m complaining, because while each artist has their own distinct color, they all blend together very well and fit the relaxed tone of the song. No one artist jarringly stands out in the way some features do.
I personally felt fairly connected to the lyrics. Just kind of two people going about their busy lives, propping each other up with their relationship and love when they can. Situations and personalities aren’t always perfect, and that’s just life. A very realistic love song, and I can appreciate that.
There is no video for this song, despite the increasing popularity of even pre-release songs earning their own videos to entice listeners. I guess we’ll just have to wait until January to see the rest of what Louie is ready to unleash.
