Park Ji Yoon, “Mr. Lee (Feat. San-E)”
Another incredible song with a great video to back it up, but me with not enough time to have gone over it in detail yet.
I’m just going to go ahead and update a bunch of posts, apparently.
Ji Yoon is on a quest to find her Mr. Lee (which seems to more or less be the equivalent of “Mr. Perfect”), and does so by enlisting pretty much every famous man in Korea with the last name Lee… which, considering how Lee is the second most common Korean surname after Kim, is no mean feat. Lee Donghyun (farmer oppa), Lee Sanghyun (biker oppa), Lee Jongsoo (chemist oppa), Lee Jongshin (producer oppa), Lee Jungchi (to be married oppa), Lee James (playboy oppa), Lee Minho (cafe oppa), Lee Jaegun (meathouse oppa), Lee Dohong (biceps oppa), Lee Sangku (ID photographer oppa), Lee Jonghyun (car center oppa), Lee Jaekoon (church oppa), Lee Sangho (just an oppa I know), Lee Seungtaek (noraebang oppa), Lee San (rapper San-E because HEY, HE FEATURES IN THE SONG oppa), Lee Hyunjong (neighborhood oppa)… and these are just the Lees that make a VIDEO appearance. Other Lees included in the tree diagram above Ji Yoon’s head include Minyoung, Seungchan, Hojin, Hoguk, Mingu, Saebyuk, Nara, Samin, Jongshin, Yunmin, Yungbum, Sang, Hyunkil, Sarang, Seungchan, and Yongmin… you’re welcome.
I find that the mv in general is very well done. The clean black and white video is frequently overlaid with colorful outlines of instruments that accentuate the song’s jazzy undertones. The dance is also quite cute, and a San-E rap verse? That’s a combo that’s hard to beat!
Unfortunately, this song, produced by Primary, is in the same boat as “I Got C” and has come under fire for plagiarism. It’s a shame, since it’s a great song but the plagiarism claims seem well-founded.
