San-E, “Story of Someone I Know”
“I’ll tell you the story of someone I know…”
It took me a little while to write out this post, but I knew I had to do it eventually because I find this an absolutely adorable song. It’s San-E’s second release since he left JYP Entertainment (the first being “Big Boy,” which I covered here), and I think he is showing a really promising start to his career under Brand New Music. I found “Story of Someone I Know” to be a pretty catchy song even after just a few listens, and the way he approaches his topic is cute. San-E’s telling a tale about *cough* “someone he knows” who just broke up with his girlfriend and feels really sad and, well, what should his friend do?! It’s quite obvious that San-E himself is the “friend” who just broke up and is feeling really sad and is wondering what he should do (which he eventually admits to at the end of the song).
The music video more or less reflects the lyrics well, with the first half being happy when he’s talking about the good aspects of his relationship, then the mood shifting when he talks about how the relationship deteriorated. But the one thing I didn’t get was the therapist. Here she is, hitting on this guy the whole time and seems to be totally irrelevant. I don’t understand why they included her. Other than that, not much of a remarkable video, just a vehicle to tempt a wider audience.
