Verbal Jint, “Walking in the Rain (feat. Bum Key)”
This is a song I put off because I wanted to figure out the lyrics first. But several weeks have passed and I STILL haven’t gotten around to it, so I am going to post it anyway. For the most part (from what I’ve been able to understand just by listening comprehension), the meaning of the song is fairly transparent: girl left, he’s sad.
I have really liked Verbal Jint for quite some time, but I had never really been a huge fan of what I had heard from Bum Key (although I did like how Epik High’s “아까워” turned out). But Bum Key’s style really fits with the style of the sound and works well with Verbal Jint’s rap, so this turns out to be quite a nice track.
The video is pretty captivating for a while. It becomes a bit repetitive, but the opening slow-motion shots with the frog and the fish really served to draw me in. Also, while Hyun Joon dancing in the rain (instead of walking) was really incredible, it didn’t really seem to fit the mood of the song. Here’s this guy singing about how he can’t do anything because his girl left, and Hyun Joon is energetically dancing his butt off. It didn’t make sense to me. Still fun to watch, though.
All in all, great track and I will absolutely spend the time to analyze the lyrics. Sooner or later.
